Diet corporations have made several claims behind why fruit should be eaten on an empty stomach, Jill Weisenberger, MS, RD, CDE, and author of Diabetes Weight Loss — Week by Week claimed that “there is no need to eat any food or type of food on an empty stomach. This myth has been around for a long time. There is no science to support it even though proponents make scientific-sounding statements.” So, the question is, what are the real answers?
Eating fruit on an empty stomach better prepares the body to receive the benefactors within the fruit, such as vitamins, minerals and fiber.
Fruit offers detoxification properties for the body when consumed on its own.
The body has trouble digesting carbohydrates that are contained in fruit if it is combined with any other food items.
Fruit goes through a fermentation process if it is combined with other food, which causes that food to become spoiled inside the stomach.
The vitamins, minerals and fiber within fruit are often absorbed into the body much better when combined with other foods. For example, iron is absorbed into the body better when combined with Vitamin C, which is in the majority of fruit.
Fruit contains detoxification properties no matter how they are consumed or what they are combined with. Even without any assistance from fruit, The stomach, liver, intestines and kidneys within the body work to naturally remove toxins within the body.
